 Job Description

Codes and abstracts information contained in health records. Enters information into computer system. Assigns appropriate APC and DRG classifications utilizing encoding/grouping software. Assists Physicians in record completion. Assists in data collection and analysis.


 Job Requirements

Working knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding


*



One year experience in an acute care setting preferred


*



High School Graduate


*



Second year student or Graduate of approved program in Health Information Technology or coding certificate program


*



Active Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Coding Specialist and/or Registered Health Information Administrator certification required (or ELIGIBLE for certification as defined below & takes/passes Examination within 6 months of hire date)


*



AAPC certification


*



Certification Eligible would be considered, candidate would be required to pass certification test within 6 months to maintain position.

Ability to use Meditech


*



Ability to use computer


*



Long periods of sitting


*



Reading records and computer screens
