JOB SUMMARY: To assist the Activity Director in planning and implementing a program of activities for the residents.
Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Ability to lead programs and to encourage resident attendance.
3. Familiarity with crafts, games and the interests of the resident population.
4. Ability to be creative to develop new program ideas and to work with a minimum of supervision.
5. Ability to be flexible with work schedule when needed.
6. Ability to obtain a Class B drivers license.
7. Possess social graces for interaction with residents and the public.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all departments of the facility.
9. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Ability to get around the facility and to assist residents, some in wheelchairs, to activities.
2. Ability to set up the physical environment for activities.
3. Some up and down activity including reaching above and below shoulder height.
4. Occasionally lifts items weighing up to 25 pounds.
5. Communicates orally and in writing with residents, co-workers, families and the public.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Activity Assistant is accountable to the Activity Director of Provena McAuley Manor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS OF ACTIVITY ASSISTANT:
1. Assists Activity Director in planning and implementing a well-rounded activity program.
2. Attends care plan conferences and provides clinical charting as assigned.
3. Leads programs and encourages resident participation.
4. Assists with special events, theme days and facility celebrations.
5. Works in a cooperative manner with other departments and volunteers.
6. Shares responsibility of keeping equipment and storage areas in proper condition.
7. Will perform all other duties as assigned to ensure the health, safety and well being of the residents and to ensure the efficient running of the nursing home.
8. Responsible for knowing and doing what is right and reporting any legal, ethical or safety concerns to the appropriate party.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Performs tasks in a manner consistent with system values as defined by the Provena Health and Provena McAuley Manor. Mission Statements.
2. Adhere to Federal and State regulations governing long term care.
3. Maintains a neat, well-groomed appearance and adhere to the dress code of the position.
4. Comply with Infection Control guidelines and follow Universal Precautions and isolation procedures.
5. Must be knowledgeable of Provena McAuley Manor fire and safety procedures.
6. Project a positive image when dealing with residents, co-workers, families and the public.
7. Attend all mandatory inservices.
8. Work cooperatively with co-workers and other departments.
9. Perform tasks in accordance with approved policies and procedures and within quality standards used by each department.
